Defending Europe

Vodka Pundit referenced a Guardian article today which asks from a European perspective, the same question I have been asking -- namely, why is the US still defending Europe?

Interestingly for a Guardian writer, he calls for both increased European defense spending AND a strong NATO alliance with the United States. How did that guy slip in there?

And as I've patiently tried to explain to you, Anthony... (*SMILE*)... the US isn't "defending" Europe per se - what we're doing is making an investment in our own national interest.

Your blog and you can ignore my points if you will, but I take your ignoring them (as opposed to simply saying they're invalid or don't meet your own cost/benefit criteria) as... sorry... a bit insulting.

You're obviously a sophisticated guy. Surely you *understand* the arguments I've been advancing even if you disagree with them.

If you were to do some outside research - check foreign policy/military periodicals and websites - you'd see that even if you disagree with my analysis and recommendations, it's not as if I'm telling you anything plenty of folks with stars on their shoulders or doctorates wouldn't tell you.

No... not claiming that *no one* agrees with you and everyone agrees with me. Simply stating that I'm not simply spouting "Barkerisms" here. (*SHRUG*)
