McCain seems very relaxed right now. Thanks to the battle between Senators Obama and Clinton, he gets to sit back and play the statesman. Things will get tough again, but for now, he can make the jokes while the Clintons and Obama stick the knives in deeper.

Did you hear/read McCain's comments on "the environment" a few days back?
Everytime the man opens his mouth he reminds people like me that staying home or voting for Obama is indeed a viable option in the sense that at least with a Democratic President rather than a RINO President there's a chance conservative elements in the House and Senate will oppose BAD policies which come out of the White House.

Don't let that fool you. Every anecdotal report I've heard from people who have actually spent time around the man in a work situation (as opposed to on the campaign bus, or plane) indicates that he is often one tick short of a tantrum. Not the guy I want with his finger on the trigger. Not the guy who is going to even attempt to defuse the monster animosity with which American is now regarded by almost all of the rest of the world. Not the guy who is going forge some kind of mini-New Deal to help out the many Americans who have been gulled and fleeced by the bankers and loan sharks that his party has unleashed through deregulation. And not the guy that I want picking a Veep, either.

I agree with you on McCain's temper. It worries me too. On the other hand, having a President who won't take $hit ain't the worst thing in the world either. Obviously McCain's personality will benefit or hurt America's interests on a case by case basis. Two cases in point:
1) Korea. A President McCain might be just what we need.
2) Vietnam. If McCain is caught in a "Vietnam War" timewarp mentality (still throwing the word "gooks" around in 2008) that's a friggn' HUGE problem because in the 21st century Vietnam is our natural ally against China.
As to the "monster animosity with which American is now regarded by almost all of the rest of the world," while I'm all in favor of having good relationships with our friends and those who should be our friends, my foremost concern is, always has been, and always will be the best interests of the United States of America. Those interests aren't always about "being liked." Sometimes standing up for the right things - not to mention the national interest - means you're not going to be liked. (*SHRUG*)
People don't give Bush credit where credit is due. Take India for example. US/Indian relations have bloomed under Bush. (*SHRUG*) That's not beanbag my friend.

First of all, just as a factual matter, it isn't that Bush and the Republicans have deregulated the financial sector, it's that the financial sector has expanded and changed over the past couple decades in a huge way - faster than new regulations.
Regulations are sometimes good... sometimes bad; it depends upon the regulations. You see "regulations" as what... 99.999% positive? (*SHRUG*) They're not.
Few people have been "fleeced," Rob, and if they have been... there are criminal and civil remedies for this. As for "loan sharks," just the opposite my economically untutored friend. Rates were artifically LOW... not high. People's eyes were bigger than their wallets. You wanna start a charity to bail out deadbeats - be my guest; just don't ask me for willing "contributions" through my already too high taxes.

That would have been the case in the 20th century, if only we had recognized Vietnam's right to throw out the colonialists and imperialists and had recognized Ho Chi Minh as the Vietnamese George Washington.
Vietnam fought a border war with China not long after they defeated us. The Vietnamese have always been natural enemies of China. As with the current war, the war in Vietnam was conducted by morons who knew nothing about the region in which they involved this country in war. Add that to the fact that they hadn't--and still haven't--learned from history that nationalism and patriotism trumps ideologies like communism and socialism every time. That lesson should have been learned permanently when international socialism failed utterly to prevent World War I.
